Things To Watch Out For

I’ll do the summer recap post later. In the meantime, I just realized that a lot of stuff is coming up this year (or in the next few months, or even days) that I’m interested in, and just so I don’t forget, I’m going to make a list. Sorry if everything I list seems to be aimed at kids, it’s a “too-lazy-to-think-like-a-grown-up” kind of thing.

Of Dimsum And Discounts

Just got back from a four day-long Hong Kong (or 香港, if you want) trip two days ago, and I must say, that was one of the best trips I’ve ever had (then again, most HK trips are fun). I’m going to narrate in varying detail what happened, partly for your entertainment but mostly so I don’t forget lol. Oh, and this is damned long, you have been forewarned.

Things About Singapore

This is all I have to show for four days out of town. Oh, and I came up with these during the trip.

- You’re never stuck in traffic for long.
- The trees here are quite abundant compared to the Philippines.
- Most residential buildings here are high-rise condos.
- There are a lot of expensive cars plying the streets.
- Some things change (there’s something that looks like the London Eye being built).
- Some things never change (the taxis still have that unique taxi smell, oddly enough).
- People take off their shoes before entering someone’s home.
- Plastic spoons are a boon when eating chicken rice liberally doused in hoisin sauce.
- Singaporeans (and some Filipinos I know) love their chili crab.
- The MRT there is ‘most excellent’.
- There are a lot of books available here, but they’re pretty expensive too.
- Fake console games can be bought here as well.
- A giant durian houses a theater.
- The phone numbers have eight digits.
- Some Singaporeans don’t speak English.
- There are E-Class taxis, for crying out loud.
- Malls can be found underground.
- The McDo there doesn’t sell Quarter Pounders.
- You could probably go from one end of the island to the other in two hours or so.
- There are parts in the mass there where the mass-goers bow to the altar.

It might not be a full-length article, but at least it’s an improvement over my previous inability to write anything except flatliners (and even then with an effort) which had been going on for the past few weeks.

Bicol Express

I like vacations. They’re always so fun and full of things different from what you would normally go through in Manila. They’re also a good way to get rid of any kind of stress (not that I suffer from much stress or even any stress anyway). So, you can imagine how much fun I had last weekend, when I went to Donsol, Sorsogon, in the Bicol region.

A Welcome Departure

Last weekend, I went to Lucena, along with the rest of my extended family on my father’s side (all twenty of them). We specifically decided to go to Lucena, since some of my cousins lived there, and we thought it would also be fun to go there to celebrate my lolo’s birthday (which was last Saturday). So I woke up at 6AM, got dressed and went to the early morning mass, and then left for Lucena along with part of my extended family. Nothing eventful happened until we got to the Petron on SLEX, which was where we met up with my tito’s family (they left from Makati, while we left from Pasig).

A Diff’rent Kind Of Pressure

Some of you guys might be wondering why I was gone for almost the whole Saturday. Well, the thing is, I went to Anilao, Batangas for scuba diving purposes. So I got up at 4:30 AM to attend the Simbang Gabi, then went back home and got ready for the 3-4 long hour trip to Anilao. We left at around 7 AM, and got there roughly at 11 AM, since my companions on this trip (my parents, my lola and my tito/ninong who was to go scuba diving with me today) stopped over at McDonald’s to catch a bite. I didn’t really notice, since I was catching up on sleep for most of the trip (I was woken up half an hour before we got there, because I had to have my breakfast and a small interval before I went scuba diving).
